Portland’s Best Neighborhoods: Eastmoreland

Wide, tree-lined boulevards and stately homes situated amidst lush, garden-spotted lawns characterize this quiet, early twentieth-century neighborhood.

An upscale, inner southeast Portland sanctum, Eastmoreland is home to the renowned, private liberal arts college, Reed College (founded in1908), where residents of the area can attend lectures, exhibits, and concerts.

Offering something for golfers of all abilities, the 18-hole Eastmoreland Golf Course was completed in 1917 as Portland’s first public course. Its emerald fairways weave through 140 acres of natural beauty—a sanctuary to blue herons, wood ducks, mallards, and more.

Other noteworthy parks in the vicinity include the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, and Berkeley Park.

Eastmoreland homes celebrate a range of architectural varieties including Tudors, colonials, stucco and Craftsman. A lively mix of restaurants and shops is only a short bicycle ride away in the neighboring Sellwood.

Since September 2015, eco-minded commuters have been benefitting from the installation of a new 7.3-mile light rail (Orange Line) that carries riders from downtown Portland to Milwaukie, passing by Portland State University, South Waterfront, and over a new mixed-use transit bridge to OMSI, along its route.
